FF Overhead Cable System
Customized system for setting up your force-fetch or whoa bench with an overhead cable/pulley. Hardware included is for 4x4 or larger wooden uprights. The shank length on each eye-screw is 3". Turnbuckle take-up is 4", so getting everything tight and secure is simple. Setup requires a drill (1/4" bit works well, do not use a bit 5/16" or larger), crescent wrench, tape measure, and minimal technical skill. Three drops are included so trainers can have the right length for every step of their conditioned-retrieve training program. The system is expandable and serviceable. If you build a larger table, the only component that would need to be replaced would be the mainline cable, the hardware will work for any length. The pulley has a self-lubricating sheave that is long lasting and mostly maintenance free. If you eventually wear out the sheave, replacing is simple and sheaves are available at any hardware store. The cable is our mainline size, 4200 lbs break strength and all of the hardware on the overhead cable is rated at over 1000 lbs. This is an extremely robust system that can handle the needs of professional trainers or folks that do frequent bench/table work.
How to Measure (READ CAREFULLY)!!!!!!!!!
Several precise measurements are needed in order to get your system to fit properly on your individual table setup. The eye-screws are ideal for uprights made from 4x4's. If you have metal posts for uprights or something different, contact us and we will find the proper hardware to get you set up. Enter these 5 values in the fields when placing your order.
Span Length: The inside width of the uprights at the height you will mount your cable. This will be the length of your overhead mainline + hardware. NOTE: the hardware will take up approximately 20" of span length. Please take that into consideration for shorter spans (under 7')
Height of cable above table: In most cases this will be approximately 40". Take into account that you want to comfortably reach the pulley block to swap out drops. Also, minimum distance achievable from the cable to the end of a drop snap is 15".
Short drop: This is the distance from your cable to the end of the shortest drop. We account for the pulley/quick link length + drop length. The minimum value 15". It can be longer, but not shorter.
Medium drop: the halfway point between the shortest and longest distance is a good choice. Most handlers like a length that allows their dog to move easily but not quite be able to pick something up from the tabletop.
Long drop: this length will depend on how much sideways movement you want to allow your dog. In most cases, 2"-3" above the tabletop to the cable height is ideal. For example, with 42" height of cable above table, your long drop value might be 39.5". Enough length for most dogs to be able to pick up a bumper from the table, but not allow much sideways movement.
